Dust Details
Lizzie Holyoak
I am a singer-songwriter, composer and keyboard player. I studied originally at the Colchester Institute and added to my studies much later at University of Warwick. I have been composing songs and music all my life. Having delved a little into the Renaissance and Baroque song repertoire and revived and recorded my singer songwriting compositions, I decided to retire from singing now, in order to focus on composition and keyboard playing.
Dust inspires me to create new music for our versatile trio.
Sarah Laughton
I play saxophone, clarinet, bass clarinet and recorders and have been in Coventry bands since the mid 1990s including The Pigeons, Mother’s Jam, Superheroes Dream and The Moonbears. Lizzie and I originally formed Dust to perform medieval works, impressionist music and original compositions.
Music has always been at the centre of things for me – I remember picking up a recorder and reading my first music note when I was 5 years old. I started clarinet lessons at age 11 and taught myself saxophone in my 20s.

I’ve played flute since a chance encounter with a flute in my 20s got me hooked. Initially self-taught, I started lessons a few years later and have had some wonderful, inspiring teachers. I passed ABRSM Grade 8 with Distinction in 2012. I joined the Heart of England Co-operative Concert Orchestra in 2009 and have also played in various forms with Lizzie Holyoak from around the same time. I’ve gradually extended the range of flutes I play to include Western alto and bass flutes with their beautiful mellow tones, as well as the Native American flute and Chinese Dong Xi.
